AMSTERDAM ENSUITE

The renovation focused on the original 1906 ensuite cabinets that separate the living and dining rooms of this Amsterdam apartment. However, the redesign took a holistic approach, considering the overall flow and functionality of the space within the apartment.
To improve spatial efficiency, two entry doors were removed. The living room door was closed off to create a more intimate setting, while the dining room door was modified by removing the door and jamb, allowing for a more open connection to the rest of the apartment.
The ensuite cabinets were fully remodeled, incorporating updated wiring for A/V equipment and recessed lighting to enhance ambiance. The original leaded glass sliding doors were upgraded with modern hanging hardware featuring a soft-close mechanism. Custom trim was designed to conceal the new track system, seamlessly integrating with the apartment’s historic details.
The original ensuite cabinet doors were repurposed—lower sections were modified to provide secure, closed storage, while the remaining portions of all four doors were reconstructed into two larger, beveled glass cabinet doors for display storage in the dining room.
Additionally, wall plaster repairs were completed, including the restoration of the original plaster ceiling.
